Activities of NLF not only address
the needs of patients with liver disease and their
families but also seek to promote awareness and better
understanding of liver disease among health professionals
and the general public.
Information:
NLF is bringing out information booklets
on all aspects of liver disease for the public in
English and regional languages. It also plans to set
up a website.
Support:
NLF provides, financial support to
economically deprived liver patients. It strives to
form patient support groups to bring the patient and
relatives together to work on their common problems.
The feeling of "not being alone" helps them
to cope more efficiently with the sufferings.
Preventive
Efforts:
NLF plans to campaign for public
health measures to prevent viral hepatitis, promote
hepatitis vaccination and prevent alcoholic liver
disease.
Training:
NLF plans to train medical and paramedical
staff in the management of liver disease by organising
clinical meetings and workshops.
Gift of life
programme:
NLF campaigns for organ donation
programme to promote cadaveric liver transplants.
Liver transplantation is an established modality of
treating advanced acute and chronic liver disease.
